Introduction
Since BW/4HANA 1.0 SP 08 Master Data Planning is available, which I shortly showed in a use case in the blog “How-to Master Data Planning in SAP BW/4HANA”. Based on this use case, I will shortly show how the master planning can be done in SAC with a BPC Live Connection to a BPC 11.1 Embedded.
Scenario
In this use case we will reuse the objects from the first How-To, namely the InfoObject ZCOSTCTR, the Aggregation Level ZALC05 and the Query ZALC05_PLA_01. In addition to these, there are four steps that need to be done for doing the master data planning in SAC:
- Change Settings in BW
- Create Model in BPC
- Create Model in SAC
- Create Story in SAC
1. Change Settings in BW [Note 2824099]
Planning in SAC with a BPC Live Connection always follows the same steps:
- Add the InfoProvider in a BPC Model
- Create a new SAC Model and select a query based on the BPC Model as data source
- Creation of Story or Application in SAC based on SAC Model
It is the same for master data planning, which means the InfoObject has to be added to a BPC Model first. However, this is only possible by using the SAP Note 2824099.
After downloading the SAP Note there is one more step that needs to be done before InfoObjects can be added to the BPC Model. In SPRO go to “SAP Reference IMG” on the left upper corner, navigate to Embedded only and open “Set Global Parameters” where I add “ENABLE_MASTER” with the value X.
Hence, InfoObjects can be used in a BPC Model as an InfoProvider.
2. Create Model in BPC [ZMD_PLANNING]
In BPC, a new Model based on the InfoObject ZCOSTCTR can now be created by opening the menu and going to “Administration” and selecting “Models”.
Click on “New” and add the ID and the description of the new model, which will be a planning model.
After this is done, the InfoObject ZCOSTCTR can be added. This InfoObject is displayed as an InfoCube as it is now used as an InfoProvider in this model.
Now the model can be saved.
3. Create Model in SAC [ZMD_ZCOSTCTR]
In SAC a new model needs to be created. This is done by using the BPC Live Connection which enables the use of the newly created BPC model and ZCOSTCTR as an InfoProvider.
To choose the model select “Get data from datasource” and on the next screen choose “Live Data connection”.
After choosing SAP BPC as the system type, the correct connection and BPC Environment, “ZDM_PLANNING” can now be selected as the BPC Model. Finally, the query ZALC05_PLA_01, which was created based on the aggregation level on ZCOSTCTR, is now available as data source.
Without further changes, the model can be saved as “ZMD_ZCOSTCTR – Master Data Planning Cost Centers”.
4. Create Story in SAC [ZST_MD_ZCOSTCTR]
Based on the new SAC Model, a new story can be created for the master data planning. For this use case I decided to create a Story, but it is also possible to do Master Data Planning in an Analytic Application.
Now choose “Add a Canvas Page” on the right side, where you can select a table. For the table I click on “Existing Model” and add ZMD_ZCOSTCTR here. To make the input ready cells more visible, change the color of them to yellow. The size of the table can be easily changed via drag and drop.
Finally, the story can be saved as ZST_MD_ZCOSTCTR – Story MD Planning Cost Centers.
After planning, the data can be saved with the “Publish Data” button.
Currently, it is not possible to enter new master data for ZCOSTCTR as SAC is not supporting a new line functionality yet.
Summary
This How-To showed how the master data planning in SAC can be realized with some simple steps. By enabling the master data planning in BPC and therewith also in SAC, SAP provides the possibility to do the whole planning in SAC without the need to switch between different tools.
I hope this use case helps you to implement such a solution by yourself and clarifies a few questions.
